We’re proud of our team members, and we want everyone else to know how great they are. That’s why each month we talk with one of our employees to let them share how they shine in their role. This month, we’re talking with Project Manager Christopher Grimsley.
What’s been your most exciting project recently?
Right now my most exciting project is the Skates building. Exciting may not be the best word for it, but it is the most challenging which equals exciting for me. Two Airbnb’s upstairs with commercial space downstairs in the crossroads. There are a lot of conditions to renovating in the crossroads that create challenges that really make you use your imagination to solve.
How do you utilize our core values in your role?
Collaboration is one of the biggest core values for me. Most of my projects include owners, Clemons peers, contractors, architects, engineers and the city. Collaboration and communication between this many people is like juggling in the circus and if you drop one of the balls it can have quite the domino effect.
What have been some highlights during your time with Clemons?
My highlights with Clemons? After eight years with the company there are so many highlights to list but here are a few of my favorites. Seeing the company grow from four people in a basement on Wyandotte to where we are today is one of the biggest highlights. I come from a background of mostly apartment remodels and had not had much experience with commercial construction. Learning that side of the business and the challenges that it presents was exciting. My favorite highlight was listening to Tim Clemons at the Christmas dinner one year tell us what a rotten teenager Aaron was!
Tell us about something you collect?
I collect divot repair tools from the golf courses that I play. I also collect anything with the Oklahoma Sooners logo on it.
What is your proudest accomplishment?
My proudest accomplishments are my 3 boys and what great young men they have grown to be. Also coming back from adversity in life and taking advantage of second chances. Learning from my mistakes and building a career with something I love to do. I count myself very lucky that I get to do something everyday that I love. Transforming something that is in terrible condition into something nice is a great way to spend your work life.
If you had to spend the rest of your life in one decade, which would be?
The decade that I would spend the rest of my life in is an easy question. The 80’s no doubt. I miss parachute pants and jackets with zippers all over them. I wanted to be Michael Jackson and Don Johnson when I was in high school in the 80’s. Also I actually had hair in the 80’s!!
